Doom Eternal: The Bible and Church Doctrine of Everlasting Punishment by Junius Benjamin Remensnyder
Doom Eternal: The Bible and Church Doctrine of Everlasting Punishment by Junius Benjamin Remensnyder

“God is a Sovereign and a Judge as well as a Father; and there come crises when it would but be weakness in him not to be inflexible in severity. The safety of the universe throughout unceasing ages demands that God illustrate everlasting justice upon sinners, as well as that. he exhibit infinite love. There is a moral law, a system of rewards and retributions, which has its terrestrial expression in human governments; and as the safety of society here depends upon the firmness of its administration, so is it throughout immensity and eternity. The archangel Michael, in the famous painting of Guido, crushing the dragon under his feet, and standing puissant in triumph as the unwavering Vindicator of right, and the unflinching avenger of wrong, is a sublime-symbol of this immutable law. This scene fitly represents the “backbone of the moral universe.” And to deny this truth, and to seek to View God in the aspect of love alone, is to ignore the most patent facts everywhere circumventing us.

Apologetics by Conrad Emil Lindberg
Apologetics by Conrad Emil Lindberg

“Without the Holy Scriptures nothing certain would be known concerning the future destiny of man and the world. No book gives us such assurance as the Bible does. In the light of the Bible the riddle of the universe is solved. Only the Bible can console the human heart and show the way to salvation.

The First Page Of The Bible by Frederic Bettex

“The first book of Moses, called Genesis, tells us whence we come; the last book of the Bible, the Revelation of St. John, shows us whither we go. It is true, men who have considered themselves wise above that which is written, have tried in every way to gainsay this divine answer; and a false reasoning at the present day proclaims from the housetops that science has done away with the former belief concerning the origin of man, and that we are not created by God, but descended from the monkey. But these so-called ‘scientific conclusions’ are nothing but misty visions and unproved conjectures of men who rely on their own thoughts and of whom the saying is true: “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.” — From Chapter 1.

The Inspiration and Accuracy of the Holy Scriptures by John Urquhart
The Inspiration and Accuracy of the Holy Scriptures by John Urquhart

“Criticism has reached certain conclusions regarding various Books of Scripture. The older narratives are declared to be mere legends, and the history generally is described as tradition tinctured by the time when it was put into writing. Certain Books of the Old Testament are said to fall below even this low level. They are declared to be fictions, the soothing epithet ‘pious’ being generally added, the representation being that evil was done by the writers that good might come! All these conclusions are placed before the public as genuine scientific discoveries.”

The Translators Revived by Alexander McClure
The Translators Revived by Alexander McClure

What were the personal qualifications of the King James’ Translators of the Bible? Alexander McClure researched for more than 20 years to gather information on all 47 of the men under the King’s Commission. McClure writes of the results of his quest, “the Translators commissioned by James Stuart were ripe and critical scholars, profoundly versed in all the learning required; and that, in these particulars, there has never yet been a time when a better qualified company could have been collected for the purpose.”

What is Scripture and How Can We Be Sure of Its Divine Origin by John Michael Reu
What is Scripture and How Can We Be Sure of Its Divine Origin by John Michael Reu

How To Understand Scripture “The sin of man not seldom works as a barrier, obscuring what is clear per se. That is the reason why we mentioned also progress in sanctification as one means that might accelerate the process. Furthermore, the exegetical work must be done according to proper principles:

Letter to a Skeptic by Charles Krauth [Journal Article]

“The tone of levity, in which you often indulge, leads me to fear, that you do not sufficiently realize your accountability for your doubts… Remember, it is the infirmity of an honest mind, to believe until compelled to disbelieve; that it is proof of a dishonest and depraved one, to disbelieve until forced to believe.” – Charles Krauth

Evolution by Theodore Graebner

Theodore Graebner was a Missouri Synod professor at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, and defender of the Six Day Creation account of Genesis. Though he wrote Evolution many years ago, the points he makes are still valid. This small book can be very helpful to Christians who wish to “detox” from the religion of Scientism.

How Should The Gospel Be Preached? by Benjamin Kurtz [Journal Article]
How Should The Gospel Be Preached? by Benjamin Kurtz [Journal Article]

“There is a strait gait of knowledge through which [everyone] must pass on entering the kingdom, and many of the results of his reasonings must be abandoned at that entrance, while he confesses himself a mere disciple all the way in his progress.”

Modern Religious Liberalism by John Horsch
Modern Religious Liberalism by John Horsch

“Modern religious liberalism has really only one dogma and consequently knows just one heresy… From this viewpoint a person is heretical to the extent that he may believe that there is absolute religious truth. – John Horsch
