The Christian Life: A Handbook of Christian Ethics by Joseph Stump
The Christian Life: A Handbook of Christian Ethics by Joseph Stump

“This book aims to set forth distinctly Christian ethics… to depict the Christian life from the standpoint of faith and regeneration… to depict the moral life from the religious point of view… The truly ethical life is grounded in the right relation of the individual to God, and that this relation determines his relation to his fellow men.” - from the Preface

An Explanation of Luther's Small Catechism by Joseph Stump
An Explanation of Luther's Small Catechism by Joseph Stump

This book aims to present both an analysis of Luther’s Small Catechism and a clear, concise, yet reasonably full explanation of its contents. It is an attempt, upon the basis of twenty years’ experience and a study of the literature of the subject… The object of the book is twofold: first, to furnish an outline of teaching which the pastor may use as a guide in his oral explanation and questioning; and secondly, to furnish a sufficiently complete summary by means of which the catechumens may review the lesson and fix its salient points in their minds. — From the Introduction

Bible Teachings: A Summary View of Christian Doctrine and Christian Character by Joseph Stump
Bible Teachings: A Summary View of Christian Doctrine and Christian Character by Joseph Stump

“The book presents Christian doctrine and Christian character, as both are drawn from the words of the Bible… Throughout the work the aim has been to draw the teachings of the Bible directly from the sacred record itself. Technical theological terms have been introduced only where it has been deemed necessary to make their meaning clear… Whatever aspect of a Biblical doctrine promised to be most helpful to the pupil has been adopted… doctrinal … apologetic… (or) historical." — From the author’s Preface

Jehovah's Witnesses: A Counterfeit Christianity by Joseph Stump [Journal Article]
Jehovah's Witnesses: A Counterfeit Christianity by Joseph Stump [Journal Article]

“The peril… lies not in any apparent ability to gain a large number of adherents… but in the fact that where it is received… it undermines belief in the existence of the soul and in eternal retribution for sin. Those who accept even this much of its teachings become persons for whom the Gospel loses all power of appeal; for what appeal can the Gospel make to those who believe that they have no soul and that there is no eternal death from which they need to be saved?” – Joseph Stump

The Life of Philip Melanchthon by Joseph Stump
The Life of Philip Melanchthon by Joseph Stump

“The life of so distinguished a servant of God as Melanchthon deserves to be better known to the general reader than it actually is. In the great Reformation of the sixteenth century, his work stands second to that of Luther alone. Yet his life is comparatively unknown to many intelligent Christians.
