ā€œOf thirteen hundred and forty-three booksā€¦ written on the subject of Lutherā€¦ not one is like this oneā€¦ Some may think that I should have given my authorities and references; but as the book was (made) for plain readersā€¦ the mention of which would have interrupted the narrative and been of no service. - John G Morrisā€

Life Reminiscences of an Old Lutheran Minister by John Gottlieb Morris
Life Reminiscences of an Old Lutheran Minister by John Gottlieb Morris

ā€œIn the Churchā€¦ influential men (opposed) genuine Lutheranism. They clung ardently to the name, and gloried in their ecclesiastical ancestry; but they held that under that name they could be Calvinists, Zwinglians, or Arminians. Lutheranism with them covered a multitude of errors, hence they struggled violently in maintenance of the lowest church views, the loosest theology.ā€ ā€” John Gottlieb Morris

John Arndt by John Morris
John Arndt by John Morris

ā€œIf ever any man was competent to write on true Christianity, that man was John Arndt. It had become his very life; it entered into the very center of his own experience; it was an essential part of his being, and hence it was only necessary to let the mouth utter that, of which the heart was full. We need not be surprised that this book, at its first appearance, met with undivided approbation and an extensive sale. It was properly regarded as the first book of devotion in the protestant church, and soon established for itself the character of a masterpiece of unperishable value.
